At UC Blue Ash we all could use a little guidance in our career paths and that’s where the awesome academic advising office comes in. I chose to observe this group of individuals because I feel many of us don’t realize how much work they put in to making our college life as easy as they are able to make it. There are different advisors for all the kinds of majors at UC Blue ash as well as a secretary to help things run easily and organized. I think we all can agree that without our individual academic advisor, we would all be lost and much more stressed out. They are available year-round and help us stay on track during our path through school and help us through tough everyday life situations that are hard to handle on our own. When they notice a student is struggling academically, they will often reach out to that student and schedule a meeting just to catch up and figure out what is going on. All they ask for is your time and effort to help them provide the best help they can. When talking to one of the Academic Advisors, Lindsey Koertiz, she stated “The number one focus is always the student. The student always comes first.”There are also options for group advising sessions as well so you can learn from other students and their lives as well. When a student is struggling there are many ways an advisor can tell just from observing them, they will notice if their grades seem to drop drastically or if they are the type of student to see their advisor often, if they stop scheduling appointments after a while, the advisor will notice and also reach out. They play a big role in the UC Blue Ash community and making it a good place for students to study at. Advisor Lindsey Koertiz also stated, “My goal is to see the student succeed as best as they can.”
